Care and Cleaning

Care and Cleaning Made Simple

To ensure your DuxxBak® composite decking brings years of enjoyment, it’s essential to install and maintain it properly. The good news? DuxxBak decking is easy to clean and built to last, thanks to the science behind our waterproof decking system.

Unlike wood, our composite deck boards resist mold, fading, and weathering, making maintenance simple and replacement rare. Below, you’ll find straightforward care instructions. For installation details, visit the product pages in our website menu.

Proper Caring

Regular light cleaning keeps your DuxxBak deck looking fresh and ensures proper drainage with tongue and groove boards. While mold and mildew don’t damage our boards, we recommend cleaning annually or as needed to prevent buildup.

Most stains can be removed with household cleaners, dish soap, or laundry detergent. Fresh stains are easiest to clean, so act quickly when spills occur.

Tools and Tips for Routine Maintenance

  1. Occasional cleaning is recommended to keep the deck looking fresh.
  2. A nylon bristle brush or broom can be used to loosen surface debris.
  3. A pressure washer with a fan tip may be used carefully, guiding the wand along the grain at a consistent height. Always test a small area first to avoid damaging the surface texture.
  4. A mild household cleaner is acceptable for removing stains.
  5. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive tools (like wire brushes), which may damage the surface appearance.

Powerful Cleaning

Occasional cleaning keeps your DuxxBak deck performing and looking its best. From routine washes to deeper cleans, following these simple guidelines will help maintain the deck surface without causing damage.

Power Washing

Occasional cleaning helps keep your DuxxBak deck looking its best. For tougher buildup, a pressure washer can be used. Set it to low pressure, use a fan tip nozzle, and guide the spray along the grain at a consistent distance—at least 12 inches from the surface. Always test a small area first and avoid holding the spray in one spot to prevent damage.

Repairing Scratches

Light surface scratches may be improved using a stainless steel wire brush, but caution is advised. Abrasive tools can alter the texture or appearance of the boards. If you choose to brush out a scratch, test a small, hidden area first and work gently with the grain.

Removing Oily Stains

For spills like gasoline, butter, or mayonnaise, use a mild household cleaner such as concentrated dish soap or laundry detergent. Gently scrub with a plastic-bristled brush. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials that could damage the surface.

Removing Microbial Stains

Algae and mold won’t harm the DuxxBak boards, but they can be removed. A pressure washer, mold remover, or nylon scrub brush will work—just be sure to follow the same care guidelines: test a small area, use low pressure, and spray with the grain.

Snow and Ice Removal

Salt products like sodium chloride and calcium chloride are safe to use for melting ice on DuxxBak decking. A white residue may appear after the ice melts; this can be rinsed away with light cleaning or will wash off naturally with rain. Use a plastic shovel—never metal—to remove snow and avoid damaging the surface.
